Bettie Mae Cook

Mrs. Bettie Mae Cook, age 91, of Windber passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 11, 2015 at Windber Hospice.  She was born on January 31, 1924 in Nanty Glo, Cambria county, daughter of the now late John, Sr., and Edna (Tyson) Paul.  She was also preceded in death by her husband Oather, son Rodger Cook, grandson Stephen, a great grandson Ryan, Jr., and a sister Geraldine Jenkins.

She is survived by these loving children: Donald E. Cook, married to th former Jean Naskali, Johnstown, Ronald D. Cook, married to the former Gerri White, National Park, NJ, Janet Cook, Altoona, David G. Cook, married to the former Stephanie Oyler, Marion, OH, and Sandra L., wife of Brett Stahl, Windber.  Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and four step great grandchildren.  She is the sister to John Paul, Jr.

Bettie was a member of the Rummel Church of the Brethren, where she served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.  She enjoyed sewing, especially at the Church of the Brethren Home, cooking, and taking long walks with her best friend Florence Manges.  She also enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren.   Early in life Bettie worked for Red Top Annex, Bestform and was a secretary at IBEW and more recently custodian at her church. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookside Manor, Portage, and the staff and volunteers at the Windber Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday March 20, 2015 at the funeral home where a funeral service be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.  Pastor Ruby Mader will officiate.  Interment will follow immediately at the Berkey Cemetery, Paint Township.  Memorial contributions made be made to Rummel Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund or Windber Hospice in Bettie's memory.
