POPP – Mrs. Myrtle M., 89 Windber, went to be with the Lord Sept. 4, 2015, at Church of the Brethren Home, Windber. Born Dec. 11, 1925, in Bedford, daughter of Howard and Minnie (Weyant) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Joseph; granddaughter, Lisa (Pepon) Gembinski; infant siblings, Sammy and Vera Shaffer; sisters, Genevieve Wargo and Fleda Panetti; stepbrother, Paul Mock; and brothers, Fred and Eugene. Survived by children, Beverly Crotzer, Johnstown; and David, married to the former Terri McEvoy, Windber; granddaughter, Jocelyn Popp, Windber; great-granddaughter, Jessica Gembinski, Marietta, Ga.; brother, Donald Shaffer, Windber; and numerous nieces and nephews. Member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church , Windber. Myrtle enjoyed family gatherings, decorating for almost all holidays and sitting on the front porch with special friends, Ann Molnar, Theresa Liszczak and Mary Newcomer.  She was an avid bingo player, favorite of which was the Windber VFW. She enjoyed playing cards and frequently beating her husband and son at crazy eights. She loved spending time with and taking care of her granddaughters and great-granddaughter. She also enjoyed shopping and hated dandelions. The family would like to thank the staff of Windber Hospice and Church of the Brethren Home for their care and compassion of Myrtle. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon Wednesday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, the Rev. Peter Helmers, officiating. Interment, Richland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in memory of Myrtle. (www.meekfuneralhome.com)
