Hill, William E., “Bill,”84, Mine 40, Windber. Passed away Jan. 7, 2020. Born June 25, 1935 in Windber. Son of Earl and Mary (Yoder) Hill. Preceded in death by parents and sister Margaret Ann Gulash. Survived by loving wife of 59 years Mary Jane (Greathouse) son Bill, Jr. and granddaughters Kara and Katelynn and great-grandson Hunter. Brother-in-law to Thomas Greathouse, Earnest and wife Carol Greathouse, Terry and wife Debbie Greathouse, Benjamin Greathouse, Donald and wife Sharon Greathouse, Wayne and wife Lisa Greathouse, Eric Greathouse, Yevonne wife of Michael Horwitz, Wanda wife of Butch Harvey and Charlotte, wife of Jim Gartland. Also numerous nieces and nephews.Windber Area High School graduate “class of 1955.” Retired from Bethlehem Steel as a machinist. Also retired from Army, where he served in Vietnam and was in the TET Offensive, and was a Green Beret with the 5th special forces. Bill received the National Defense service metal, Vietnam service metal with Four Bronze Stars, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Achievement Metal, Army Commendation Medal, 3 NCO Professional Development Ribbon and Parachutist Badge.
