YUHAS, Stephen “Shaz,”95, life-long resident of Windber and Owner of Shaz’s Barber Shop, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2022 at his home with his loving family. Born May 15, 1927 in Windber. Preceded in death by parents Andrew and Elizabeth Yuhas, wife Dorothy (Klimek), son-in-law Mike Baeder, sister Etel Sirianni, brothers John and Andrew Yuhas, and Louis and Joseph Hedegus. Survived by children Sharon Kushner (John) of Chambersburg, Stephen at home, and Cheryl Izing (Steve), Grandchildren Jason Faith Funair) and Adam (Kerry Plumb) Kushner, Jessica (Robbie Weitzel) and Michael Baeder, Great Grandchildren, Vanessa and Connor Kushner and Serenity Weitzel. He is also survived grand dogs Izzabella and Marcus and by caretaker and loving friend Holly Beacham. He graduated from Windber High School in 1945. Shaz was a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy. Upon return from the Navy he got his Barber license and eventually opened Shaz’s Barber Shop. He cut hair for 73 years, retiring in June 2020. He loved his craft and loved his customers. Shaz was an avid golfer and scored a hole in one on #8 at Northwinds Golf Course. He was a true Windber fan and attended many of the sports events cheering on the Ramblers. In his earlier days he was a flag holder at Windber Football games. On October 10, 2009 he was inducted into the Windber Hall of Fame. Shaz also was an usher at St. Anthony’s church. He had a great spirit and deep love of his family, friends, customers and community. Friends will be received from 1 to 7 pm, Sunday at Meek and Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber, where American Legion service will be held at 5:15 pm and vigil at 6 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber. Military rites by Windber VFW Post 4795 ritual team. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Jen Gunby and Jennifer Balon and all the staff at the Veteran’s Administration and Windber Home Health and Hospice nurses and staff over the past couple years. He got the best and compassionate care.
