Sandra L. Mihalko

Mihalko, Sandra L., 75, Windber, passed on into Heaven on January 11th, 2023 at home in Windber, PA, with her loving husband by her side. Born May 23rd, 1947 in Windber, PA to the late, Regis and Katherine (Tantorno) Newcomer. She is preceded in death by grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from the Newcomer and Tantorno families, and brother in law, Jack Dove. Survived by loving husband of 56 years, Gary Mihalko Sr.; son, Gary Mihalko Jr. married to Gemma, California; sister, Regina wife of Elmer "Snubby" Burket, Windber; sisters in law, Anita Dove, North Carolina; and Karen Costanzo married to Ed, Windber; brother-in-law, Lindsay Mihalko married to Barb, Windber; and numerous nieces and nephews, who she loved and treasured dearly. Sandra graduated from Windber Area High School, class of 1965. She was a member of the Band, playing the clarinet, she was a member of the Drama Club and acted in her senior play. After graduation she worked at the former Maple Drive Elementary School in Windber as a Teacher's Aide, leaving the school she joined the Somerset County Head Start Program working with children. She then moved on to become a caregiver for an elderly couple, but when they passed on she knew that her path in life was to return to watching children. Over the years she would care for and be the nanny or "Meme" for numerous families in the local area. She was so proud of each and every child that she helped raise and how they have grown to be outstanding young adults. Sandra was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber. Over the years she served as Eucharistic Minister, Altar Server, Choir Member, Holy Name Society and numerous other organizations and groups. Following Sandra's wishes there will be no viewing and all services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to MEEK & DALLA VALLE FUNERAL HOME of Windber.
