Russell C. "RC" Custer

CUSTER - Russell C., "RC," 73, Windber, passed away June 5, 2022 at Beacon Ridge, Indiana, PA. Born July 14, 1948 in Windber. Son of Clarence and Lucy (Hadix) Custer. Preceded in death by parents, brother Raymond, sister Rotha Custer and beloved dog Nakita. Survived by loving wife of 53 years Sharon (Hoover), and these children Jerry Lynn, wife of Brian Maldet, Hooversville, Jennifer, wife of Ken Vogel Jr., Johnstown, Kerry Ann, wife of Brian Lichtenfels, Johnstown and William Ray Custer and wife Lisa (Gore), Conway, SC. Grandchildren Daniel Maldet, Laiken and Olivia Vogel, Brittney Lichtenfels and great-grandson Lincoln Young. Brother to Roxanne, wife of Harold Updegraff, Robin, wife of Doug Serwon, Ranae Blanks and Rodman Delasko and wife Carie. Member Rummel Church of the Brethren, Windber. Honorary member of the Windber Vol. Fire Co. Retired as maintenance man at Windber Area School District. RC was an avid NASCAR fan and attended races at his favorite racetrack, Pocono International raceway. He loved to go camping at his camp, hunt and drink beers with the Shedlow gang. Anyone that knew RC, knew he would talk to anyone about everything. He bragged about being on the Windber High School track team. He usually was the anchor leg, but “not always”. However he would let out the time he took off and forget to grab the baton in his stories. His most favorite topic to boast to others about were his children and grandchildren.  He had no problem bragging about what his children do; “one is a teacher, one worked at Verizon, one was in prison and one is a parts manager.”  He was most proud of his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. He loved taking care of them and just being Pappy. The family will receive friends from 3 pm until time of service at 7 pm Thursday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Cambria County Humane Society in memory of RC.
