Appleyard, Robert A., 90, Windber died Oct. 20, 2019 at Arbutus Manor. Born July 22, 1929 in Windber son of the now late Arthur and Mary Belle (Watchman) Appleyard. Also preceded in death by wife former Mary Matcho, and brothers Russ, James, Bill and Jack. Survived by children Linda, wife of Frank Tallyen, Windber, Robert, and wife Christina, New Holland, and Dennis, and wife Sherry, Hagerstown. Grandfather to Heather, Frank, Timothy, Jodi and Brittany, and great grandfather to Kayla, Evan, Collin, Tyler, Emilee, and Julia. Also survived brother-in-law Edward Yursky, Cleveland, former sister-in-law Ernestine Appleyard, Charlotte, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was a 1947 graduate of WAHS where he played basketball and football. He was an avid Windber Ramblers and Steelers fan. His interests included reading the newspaper, listening to music, watching TV, & volunteering at St. Anthony’s for weddings, funerals, festivals, parties, and banquets. He was a 42 year employee with GTE. Army veteran of Korean War attaining rank of Sgt. Member of St. Anthony’s Church, Windber where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. Fr. Larry Lacovic, presiding. Committal St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Windber with military graveside rite by Windber VFW Ritual Team. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Inc., Windber where vigil for the deceased will be held. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Arbutus Manor for their kind and compassionate care of Bob for the nearly 6 years he resided there.
