Ashbrook, Robert A., 76, of Windber, passed away February 4, 2023 at Windber Hospice. Born July 29, 1946 in Blough, Pennsylvania, son of the late, Arthur and Kathryn (Pugh) Ashbrook. Preceded in death by brother, Douglas Ashbrook; nephews, James and Douglas Ashbrook; nieces, Cori Ashbrook- Berkey and Helen Ashbrook; sister in law, Sandy Kusinko; brother in law, John Mastillo; in law’s, Michael and Gloria (Telford) Kusinko. Survived by loving wife of 52 years, Valerie (Kusinko) Ashbrook; sons, Michael married to Valerie (Jodon); and Robert married to Kelly (Moore), all of Windber; grandchildren, Kegan (Shannon); Kylie and Karah; brothers, James (Drema); Gary (Denise); David (Jeanie); Greg (Annamarie); and Roger Ashbrook; sisters, Wanda Mastillo; Darlene Kennedy and Georgeann Kennedy; sister in laws, Donna married to Samuel Buchkovich and Janet Ashbrook; also by numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran with the 196th Light Infantry, proudly earning the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Devide. Bob left school early to work on a farm to help support his family. He worked as a Coal Miner at Country Club Coal, Island Creek and Beth Energy 33 after 33 closed he finished his career as a Welder at ACS in Windber. Bob was a hardworking man who loved his boys and could not wait to go hunting and fishing with them. He enjoyed camping and boating at Raystown Lake and dearly loved his grandchildren. Robert was a member of Rummel Church of the Brethren, Windber; Vietnam Veterans; Windber American Legion; Windber VFW; and Windber Moose. Family will receive friends Wednesday, February 8th from 2 to 8 p.m. at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home of Windber, where Windber American Legion will hold service. Friends received Thursday, February 9th from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Service at the funeral home, Rev. Abby Shaffer, officiating.
