Michael Nolan Obituary

Nolan, Michael W. (“Mickey”), 88 of Windber, PA, died January 3, 2022 at Windber Hospital of complications from pneumonia after a short illness. Born Nov. 16, 1933 in Maple Ridge, PA. Son of William and Anna (Benza) Nolan. Preceded in death by parents, wife Jo Ann, son Michael, brother Patrick and sister Catherine (Bango). He is survived by children Lee, married to Harry Dayton, Windber and Paul, engaged to Kris Smith, East Freedom, daughter-in-law Anita (Walker), Windber and sisters Alice, wife of Bob Moore, Stoystown and Anna (Mullins), Winston-Salem, NC. Mike attended Windber Area High school and then spent most of his life employed as a crane operator with Bethlehem Steel Corporation before retiring in 1993. He was extremely civic-minded and served in many capacities during his life including Scalp Level borough chief of police, Scalp Level borough councilman, Cambria County constable, committee member of the Cambria County Democratic Party, Windber Area Authority board member, and president of Gautier local 2632 to name just a few. He belonged to the Loyal Order of the Moose lodge 349, American Legion Post 849, Harmonie Singing Society, B.P.O. Elks #175, and the NRA. One of his main joys in life was his membership at Daisytown Sportsman’s Club where he participated in .22 rifle and pistol leagues with friends up until a month before his illness (dad absolutely loved the competition and was quite a good shot). He took great pride in maintaining his house and property and could fix just about anything. He was a good friend to many people, and a great father, brother, and uncle to many more. The family requests that a contribution be made to the charity of your choice in Mike’s name in lieu of flowers. At Mike’s request there will be no viewing or visitation. His ashes will be interred at Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. Arrangements by Meek and Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber. Condolences may be left at www.meekfuneralhome.com.
