Mauro Bucci Obituary

Mauro J. “Mooch” Bucci, 92, of Windber, PA passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021.  He was born in Windber in 1929 and was a lifelong resident.  He was the son of the late Nicola and Theresa (Emanuele) Bucci. Mauro had many talents and hobbies from building cabinets to repairing small engines.  He had an avid interest in NASCAR racing, Penn State football, and the Steelers.  He loved animals, especially dogs.  In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball and bowling.  His early jobs included working at the local hardware store and operating a steam shovel at a strip mine.  Following his retirement from Bethlehem Steel, he followed in his father’s footsteps as a caretaker at Saint Anthony’s Cemetery.  Mauro was a faithful member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish.  He was a Life Member of the VFW in Windber. Mauro was proud to have served in the Army and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions as a tank commander.  Upon returning from Korea, he married Mary Louise Finnegan and had a daughter.  Following her death he later married Gladys Askey. Mauro was preceded by death by his parents, his wives Mary Louise and Gladys, his brother Robert Bucci, sisters Evelyn “Dollie” Bucci and Kathryn Tengeres, and stepson William Askey.Mauro is survived by his daughter Patricia (James) Hovanik, stepdaughter Vicki (Frank) Smith, stepdaughter-in-law Vickie Askey, step-grandchildren Shaun, Heather and friend Ed Carmack, Meghan, Kayla, Ryan, Paige, and Leah Askey, and Richard Smith, and great step-granddaughter Gabriella.  Also survived by nieces Debra Tengeres (fiancé Jim Zemyan) and Karen (Larry) Marshall, grand-nieces Stephanie Gaydis and Ashley (Jesse) Brocious, great-grand-nephews Evan and Miles Brocious, and great-grand-niece Amelia Brocious. Private family viewing at the funeral home and Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber, Fr. Rod. Committal St. Anthony Mausoleum with military rites by Windber VFW. Arrangements entrusted to Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber.
