Marlene Soyka, 52, Windber, PA, departed at home April 15, 2021 after a six-year battle with stage 4 gastrointestinal cancer. Born in Johnstown, PA on January 16, 1969 and raised in Sidman, PA, daughter of the late Michael Nyda and Barbara Nyda.; Preceded in death by father Michael Nyda. Survived by loving husband Brian Soyka, loving mother Barbara (Vernalli) Nyda, siblings Michele (Nyda) Miller, Michael Nyda, Debbie (Nyda) Reighard, and Christine Nyda. Loving mother of and survived by Stephanie (Soyka) Merberger married to Brett Merberger, Ferndale, PA, Chad Soyka, Raleigh, NC, and Danielle Soyka, Columbus, OH; grandchildren Raiden, Jeremiah, Preston, Bentley, and Bryan Merberger. Was known by many as “Aunt Mod” and was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. A 1986 graduate of Forest Hills High School and Greater Johnstown Vocational Technical School. A loving nurse and caregiver to many. Marlene gave anything and everything she had to anyone who needed it for entire life. Devoted member of St. Mary’s (Dormition) Byzantine Catholic Church, Windber, where Divine Liturgy will be held at 10a.m. Monday April 19, Fr. Ivan Rusyn, pastor. The family will have an open viewing service from 6 to 8 pm Saturday April 17, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Sunday April 18, and prior to the 10am service on Monday at Meek and Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber.
