Varner, Marilyn Joyce, 84, Windber, was granted her wish to go home on March 24, 2021 at Windber Woods. Born Sept. 14, 1936 in Windber. The youngest daughter of Harry and Edith (Wissinger) Phillips. Preceded in death by parents, husband Marlin, who died Aug. 6, 2017 ending a 55 year marriage, sisters Mary Louise Rager and Grace Jurick. Survived by daughter Sandra, granddog Tucker, sister Joanne Wright, nieces Karen Turcato, Barbara Reese, Kim Sinha and Amy Cobaugh and nephews Bruce Rager, Jeff Jurick, David Wright and Brian Rager. Marilyn not only lived in Windber her whole life but until March 2021 lived on the same street. She was a 1955 graduate of Windber Area High School. After graduation she worked several years in the dining room of Windber Hospital. She left the hospital after getting married to become a wife and homemaker. In January 1965, mother was added to the list. Over the years Marilyn cared for many children, all of them special to her. She was also known for her candy making, her peanut brittle was a recipe she learned from her father. Hard candies and chocolates particularly her chocolate covered potato chips. Christmas time found her being Mrs. Claus to her husband’s Santa, going to area businesses and nursing homes, putting smiles on other peoples faces, made her Christmas extra special. She was an active lifetime member of the Scalp Level Trinity United Methodist Church, Windber. Marilyn’s family would like to thank Dr. Craig Fockler, Windber Home Health, Pallative Care, occupational and physical therapies, hospice and the staff at Windber Woods for the excellent care they provided her during her final weeks. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber and from 10 until time of service at 11 am Monday at Scalp Level Trinity UMC, Horn Rd., Windber.
