Brannon - Joseph Michael, 30, of Windber passed away peacefully on May 17, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 4 year battle with brain cancer. Born July 1, 1989 in Johnstown, the son of Linda Scanlan and Michel Todd Brannon. Preceded in death by grandmother, Mary (Nan) Brannon and grandfather, James (Pap) Scanlan. Survived by mother, Linda Scanlan (Bob), father, Michael Todd Brannon (Marie), brother, Jordan Scanlan, grandmother, Stella Scanlan, grandfather, Joe Brannon, aunt, Lisa Greathouse (Wayne), aunt, Marcy (Scanlan) Spinos, uncle Jim Spinos, aunt, Janie (Neder) Otto (Bob), uncle, Joe Neder (Alice). Cousins, Tom Greathouse (Alisha), Jim Greathouse (Courtney), Anthony Spinos (Taylor), Michael Spinos (Sha’lee) and special little buddies Autumn and Lauren Greathouse and beloved pet Mickey. Special friends, Duane Reed (Gabby), Joe Inscho (Tiff), Sam Eisenhuth, Kristen Moyer (Mark), Lori Conahan, Jeff Conahan, Jeff and Chris LaPorta, Brandon Statler, Paul Rowell, Vic Hazlett, Kris Owens, Tyler Gulash, Marshall Kurchak, Lexi Pollock, Lyssa Beitsinger, Sophie Straw and MANY MORE. Joe was a 2007 graduate of Windber Area High School and employed by Walmart Distribution Center in Bedford. He was a kind, fun loving and caring person who loved to help anybody any way he could, especially loving to “pay it forward”. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He sure left a mark to all he met with his jokes and pranks and will be missed by many. Most of all he was a true hero and fighter. He always said “God gives the hardest battles to his strongest warriors” and strong he was. A special thank you to the entire staff at John Hopkins Hospital and Penn Hospice for their outstanding care and Tom and Diane Venet for all your help. He was a faithful member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber. A private viewing and funeral will be held for the family.
