Malas, Hazel, 98, Windber, passed away January 6, 2023 at Arbutus Park Manor. Born October 23, 1924 in Blough, PA, daughter of the late Grant and Lois (Dobbins) Orris. Preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Bill, Joseph and Tommy Orris; sisters, Anna Mae Furgiuele, Betty Geyer and Mabel Gardner. Survived by loving children, Ron Orris; Bernard Sendek, Robert Sendek, Thomas Sendek, Darlene Young, Kathy Sendek and Sharon Sudduth; brother, Jack Orris; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchild, nieces and nephews. Hazel was a faithful member of St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church. Hazel had a lifelong passion of cooking. In the 1950s, she owned a bakery, supplying baked goods to ethnic grocery stores in Windber. She worked in many different restaurants and food venues, including a position as chef at Pine Acres Country Club in Bradford, Pa. She passed on her love of cooking to children and grandchildren. Hazel was a kind, compassionate and loyal daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Honoring Hazel’s wishes there will be no viewing, her family will have a celebration of life later in the year. Interment with her mother at Berkey Cemetery, Windber. www.meekfuneralhome.com.
