Gregory Guy Obituary

Guy, Gregory Lee, 63, of Windber, Pennsylvania, entered into the arms of our Lord and Savior on September 23, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born April 5, 1959 to Daniel and Patricia (Perich) Guy in Johnstown, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Guy, and father-in-law Robert Dale. Survived by his wife of 44 years Dawn; daughter, Tiffany (Jeff Mock); daughter, Rebecca (C.J. Petrocelli); son, Gregory Jr. (Tracy Hanan); son, Brent (Megan Mills); mother-in-law, Wilma Dale; brother, Perry (Diane Faust); sister, Debbie; brother, Patrick; special uncles, Nicholas Banda and William Perich; grandchildren, Adeline, Kane, Colt, Gregory III, Chase, and Cameron; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He graduated from Ferndale Area High School in 1977. He went on to be the successful business owner of the G.L. Guy Roofing Company for 35 years. During his career, he touched the lives of both his employees and customers. He earned an outstanding reputation for his dedication to his craft and willingness to always lend a hand. As many of his former employees will tell you, he held a high standard when it came to the quality of his work with a focus on customer satisfaction. When he wasn’t on the roof, he could be found on the sidelines of the Windber football games taking action shots, or coaching in the Windber High School baseball dugout. He gave back to the community by helping with the Dog Run, sponsoring local teams, supporting other local businesses, fixing up the little league fields, or even volunteering his time to install the roof on the gazebo in Central Park in downtown Johnstown. Greg also enjoyed photography, fixing up classic cars, military aviation, telling “dad” jokes, taking Dawn and his grandchildren for ice cream in his 1968 GTO, playing with his children’s dogs, and cheering on his grandkids at sporting events, especially softball games. He always made sure everyone in his family was taken care of, especially Dawn and Wilma. He is a former member of Franklin Street United Methodist Church where he held many positions in which he contributed to the growth and community of the church. His most recent house of worship was Oakland United Methodist Church. Greg was the father of four children, but he was also a father figure and role model to so many. People often sought him out for advice and he didn’t hesitate to offer guidance and support. His legacy will live on in all of the lives he has touched. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and care teams of UPMC hospitals (Presbyterian, Montefiore, Somerset, and Shadyside), UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, and the office of Dr. Kastelic. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Greg’s honor to The Family House (5308 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224 or https://familyhouse.org/) or Windber Area Visioning Experience (Windber Borough Office 1401 Graham Avenue, Windber, PA 15963) A memorial will be held to honor Greg on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Oakland United Methodist Church, 1504 Bedford Street, Johnstown, PA 15902 with Pastor Randy Bain officiating.
