KMETZ, Emma J., 97, Louisa, VA formerly of Windber, died March 29, 2021 at home. Born June 6, 1923, in Windber, daughter of the late Alex and Mary (Lorenz) Toth, both of Hungary, who resided most of their lives near Windber. Also preceded in death by her husband, William D. Kmetz, daughter, Diane (Kmetz) Kline, sisters Mary Kish, Margaret Buckshaw, Elizabeth Hart, Helen Lesko, and brother Steve Toth. Survived by son William A. married to Bridget (Vetere) Kmetz, Louisa, VA, daughter Cynthia, married to Jesus G. Ramirez, Jr., Alexandria, VA, grandson Erik W. Kmetz and granddaughter Diana T. Kmetz, both of Winterville, NC. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. During WWII, Emma served our great country as a “Rosie the Riveter” at the Fleetwood plant in Detroit, MI where she bucked and riveted engine cowlings for B-17 and B-29 aircraft. Emma worked at various garment factories spending the majority of her time at Bestform and after many years, retired from the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Emma was a long-time member of SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church where she was an active member of the Mary Guild. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 6th at The Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber. The funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with committal at SS Cyril & Methodius Cemetery (west end).
