Stopko, Edward Charles Sr., retired Windber Borough Chief of Police, 86, Windber, passed away September 4, 2023 at Windber Hospice. Born October 1, 1936 in Windber, son of the late Stanley and Catherine (Gerula) Stopko. Preceded in death by brother, Stanley Stopko; sister, Anna Mae Levinson; nephews, Richard Hendrick, Timothy Hendrick, and Timothy Stopko; brother-in-law, Jack Levinson. Survived by loving wife of 63 years, Gloria J. (Mareino) Stopko; sister, Barbara married to Chuck Goldstrom; daughter, JoAnn married to Paul Whitaker; son, Edward Charles Stopko Jr.; grandchildren, Kelly married to Robert J. Ashbrook; Amy married to Nathan Bafile; Robert Moore and Justin Stopko; great-grandchildren, Noah and Jacob Bafile; Logan, Luke and Landry Moore; Lilleah and Reagan Stopko; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edward was a 33 year veteran of Law Enforcement, 7 years Patrolman, 3 years Detective and Criminal Investigator and 23 years as Chief of Police. He was a proud U.S. Marine veteran, Fraternal Order of Police and life member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Windber. He was a former member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasons, and belonged to the Jaffa Shrine. Ed recited these words from the Bible prior to his passing, Matthew 7:7, "“Ask and it will be given to you”.
