BANGO, Catherine A., "Baba", 84, Windber, passed away January 13, 2021 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born Aug. 10, 1936, in Windber. Daughter of the late William and Anna (Benza) Nolan. Preceded in death by husband George, brother Patrick and grandson George. Survived by siblings Michael Nolan, Ann Mullins and Alice (Robert) Moore, and sister-in-law, Julia Holtzman, children George Bango (Lee Ann Kruise) of Hollidaysburg; Catherine (Raymond) Chessa of Johnstown; Jon (Debora) Bango of Windber; James Bango of Windber; grandchildren Deanna (Kevin) Smith, Carissa (Carl) Shippey, Laura (Matthew) Natal, Andrew (Nathalia) Chessa, Nik Bango, Stephan (Julie) Chessa, Katie (Mike) Stossel, Julia Chessa, Brooke Bango; and great-grandchildren Emily, Gavin, Taylor, Kayden, Carson, Nolan, Leland, Kinsley, Aidan, Kamdyn and Noah. Catherine was a lifelong and active member of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. She taught Sunday School, was past President of the Women's Club and current Alter Society Member. She loved to cook and bake, she began her cooking career at the American Legion, Windber until she began working for the Brethren Home (Windber Woods) where she retired after 20+ years of service. She had a talent for baking and decorating cakes for all occasions. In her lifetime she made hundreds of cakes, which included numerous wedding cakes for friends and family. Catherine loved sorting, inspecting, and collecting coins which she enjoyed for many years. Catherine hosted Easter dinners and Christmas Eve supper for 30+ guests. She loved Christmas and had a dedicated room to all the Santa's she had acquired through the years. Friends and family will be received Saturday, January 16th from 9-10 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Windber, PA where Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Fr. Miles Zdinak, pastor. Committal church cemetery. There will be a live stream of the service on Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church Facebook Page.
