KMETZ – William D., 92, Louisa, VA formerly of Windber, died Feb 8, 2018, at home. Born Mar 31, 1925, in Windber, son of the late Andrew and Anna (Kobilan) Kmetz. Also preceeded in death by daughter, Diane (Kmetz) Kline, sister, Mary Spinazolla, sister Dorothy Kmetz, and sister Ann Norrell. Survived by loving wife of 70 years, Emma (Toth) Kmetz, son William A. Kmetz, married to Bridget (Vetere) Kmetz, Louisa, VA, daughter Cynthia, married to Jesus G. Ramirez, Jr., Alexandria, VA, grandson Erik Kmetz and granddaughter Diana Kmetz both of Greenville, NC. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a proud WWI II Veteran where he was assigned to an anti-aircraft gun battalion and landed on Omaha Beach. He was a member of the Third Army under General George Patton and was awarded four battle stars for his laudable service. Bill was the friendly face everyone knew at the Windber Liquor Store where he retired from the PA Liquor Control Board after 35 years of service. He was one of the founding members of the Windber Area Athletic Boosters Association (WAABA), where he served as Treasurer for over 30 years, and also served on the Windber World War II Commemoration Committee. In 2009, Bill was inducted into the Windber Hall of Fame. Bill was also a long-time member of SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, the Slovak Club, VFW and American Legion. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb 15th at The Meek Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb 16th at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Windber. Interment will follow at SS Cyril & Methodius Cemetery (west end). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in memory of Bill to the Windber Area Athletic Boosters Association (WAABA).
