Michael Kusinko

Kusinko, Michael, 92, Windber & Lake Raystown, died Jun. 28, 2017 at UPMC Altoona. Born Aug. 22, 1924 in Mine 42 son of John and Helen (Lentor) Kuchinko. Preceded in death by parents, step-father Michael Kolger, wife of 51 years Gloria (Telford), daughter Sandra Lee, brothers John, Andrew, and sister Mary Cagle. Survived by daughters Valerie, wife of Robert Ashbrook and Donna, wife of Samuel Buchkovich, both of Windber. Grandfather to Michael Ashbrook, married to former Valerie Jodon, Robert Ashbrook, married to former Kelly Moore, Nicole, wife of John Kindja, and Samuel Buchkovich, III. Great-grandchildren Kegan, Kylie, and Karah Ashbrook, Lukas and Megan Kindja, and Madison and Samuel Buchkovich IV. Also survived by extra special niece and nephew Regina and Frank Pruchnic, Christy Rees, Deborah Makuch, Russell Kusinko, Renee Barone, & Regina Stults, and other nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law to Charlotte Kosinko and Beverly Chapman. Former member of the Windber Church of the Brethren. Army veteran of WW II serving in the Aisatic Theatre with ground combat in Iwo Jima. Former coal miner and then was a self-taught and self-employed building and masonry contractor. Avid motorcyclist, camper, and boater. He was a most wonderful and loving father who loved his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always helping others. Along with his wife, they built their retirement home at Lake Raystown. Michael was greatly loved and respected and will be sorely missed everyday till we are together again. He faithfully read his bible daily and was waiting to go home to the Lord to be with his wife and other loved ones. The past few years he resided with his daughter Valerie. Former member of Windber Church of the Brethren. Family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Inc., Windber where service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ruby Mader will officiate.
