Gahagen, Eugene D. “Gatch”, 91, Windber, PA & Holiday FL died Apr. 16, 2018 at Windber Hospice surrounded by his loving family. Born Aug. 8, 1926 in Windber son of the late Guin and Bertha Mae (Holsopple) Gahagen. Also preceded in death by son Craig Allen, sisters Freda Springer, Ruth Lashinsky, and brother Vernon Blough. Survived by wife of 61 years former Patricia Cornelius, and these children: Sean, married to former Kimberlee Harper, Windber, Dr. Constance, wife of Allen Hudspeth, Orlando, FL & Kellie, wife of Lt. Col. William Russell Donaldson, Mongomery, AL. Also survived by six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Brother to Dorothy wife of James Karl, Johnstown, Gwynn, married to former Rosemary Marfizo, Windber, and Nancy Facciani, Beaverdale. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Gatch was a graduate of WAHS, proudly served his country as a US Marine during WW II and was a Purple Heart combat recipient. Gene was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner, was a member of Windber VFW where he served as past commander, Windber Fire Co., Windber American Legion, & Jr. Chamber of Commerce, served on the Windber school board President for 2 terms, served as an elder in the former First Presbyterian Church, Windber and deacon at First Baptist, New Port Richey, FL; was the recipient of the Grand Cross of Color from the board member of Windber Rainbow Girls. In 2009 he was inducted into the Windber Hall of Fame for his many community activities. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Inc., Windber where service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, The Rev. David Streets, officiating, and where military rite will be held by Conemaugh Valley Det. 287 Marine Corp. League. Private interment at Richland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Windber Hospice in Gene’s memory.
