George Yamber

Yamber, George, 90, Windber, passed away Sept. 22, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born May 11, 1930 in Johnstown. son of John and Mary Yamber. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Leona; son George; grandson Jessie; brothers, John, Paul, Andy and Adam; and by sister, Mary. Survived by loving daughters, Georg Jean  Zimmerman, Maryland; Sandra, wife of Philip Deskevich, Nanty Glo; and Christine, wife of Chaz Knepper, Hollsopple. grandchildren, Yulissa, Michele, Mike Jr., Gerard and Alex. great-granddaughter, Shelby Kay; also by numerous nieces and nephews. Member and elder of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Johnstown. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, served as the past commander of the Windber American Legion and VFW; member of the Polish Educational Club, Windber; enjoyed making homemade wine, sauerkraut and bacon roast.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon Saturday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber. Pastor Mark Ruppert, officiating, where Windber VFW will hold service at 11:30 a.m.  Entombment with military honors by Windber VFW at Richland Cemetery and Mausoleum.
