Mildred E. Rizzo Obituary

Rizzo, Mildred “Millie” (Amelia),  96, went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2019.  Born on April 21, 1922 in Windber, to Celestino and Mary Rillo. She was one of 14 children; survived by Virginia Bohler, John Rillo, and MaryLou Pruchnic. Millie married Anthony Rizzo, a coal miner, on November 4th, 1945 and they were blessed with 5 children: Dominick “Butch”, Anthony Jr. (Lynda Hornick), Marie (Anthony Chippie), David (Norma (Hoffman) Rizzo-Creager), and infant son Joseph.  Millie and her husband, Tony, founded Rizzo’s Restaurant in 1965, where she was an inspiration to many employees and customers, largely due to her unparalleled work ethic, kindness, and generosity. As her family grew, Millie thoroughly enjoyed sharing her wisdom and life stories with her beloved grandchildren Tonilyn (Travis) Kargo, Dominick (Danette) Chippie, Jeanna Rizzo, Nicholas Rizzo, Heidi (Kent) Hollier, Anthony (Katie) Rizzo III, Marisa Chippie, Marlena (Christopher) Zamias, Frank Rizzo, Joseph (Alyse) Rizzo, Liza Rizzo, John Rizzo, Sabina Rizzo, Mario Rizzo and Christina Rizzo. Her greatest joy, most recently, was time spent with her great-grandchildren: Sienna, Talia, and Dominick Chippie; Koby, Mason, and Trae Kargo; Ella Rizzo, Izabella Zamias, Thea Rizzo, and Tilly Hollier. The Rizzo family would like to thank Dr. Jerry Gray, Dr. Pat Gray, and the wonderful staff at Arbutus Park and Conemaugh Palliative Care for loving and caring for Millie in her final days. Millie was a contagious spirit who thoroughly enjoyed life. She inspired all with her unwavering strength, positive outlook, and perseverance. She was known for, and will be remembered by, her unconditional love, humility, quick wit, business savvy, and warm, beautiful smile. Most importantly, as a member of St. Anthony of Padua, she lived out her faith; and she loved her family deeply.  Funeral mass 1pm Monday at St. Anthony of Padua, Windber. Fr. Rod Soha, TOR, pastor. Per Millie’s request, private interment to follow. Arrangements by Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Inc., Windber.
