Danel, Paul E., Sr., 84, Richland Twp., formerly of Windber and St. Michael, PA, passed away Feb. 20, 2018 at Windber Hospice. Born Nov. 29, 1933 in Johnston City, IL. Son of Morris and Mary (Courty) Danel. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Ferny, Alfred, Emile, Morris (died at birth), and Ray. Also sisters-in-law Cecilia, Rosie and Josephine. Survived by loving wife Helen (Bartek) and these children Paul E., Jr., and wife Kathy, Windber, Keith W., and wife Kimberly, South Lake, TX and Robin M., wife of Robert Murphy, Sharpsburg, MD. Sister, Hermine Sivec. Grandchildren, Ryan, Breanne, Nathaniel, Cooper, Mollie and Brody. Also step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Susan, and Michael, and numerous step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Paul graduated from Adams Summerhill high school in 1951. After graduation he went to work at the G.H. Miller Feed Co.,  later at The St. Michael Beverage Co, Bethlehem Steel 134 Inch Plate mill in Johnstown PA, worked fifteen years for Metropolitan Life Ins. Co. he later worked for the Pennsylvania Auditor General’s office,. Paul was the owner of the DANEL/GIBSON insurance office in Windber 1980 to 1997. On June 16th 1956 Paul asked Helen Marie (Bartek) Danel of Windber to be his bride. They were married in the First Lutheran Church, Windber, where Paul was active member and served as Sunday School Teacher and President of Church Council. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the St. Michael American Legion Post 551 and the Windber VFW Post 4795. Member of the Windber Lions Club, where he served as President for 3 terms and Zone Chairman for District 14M for 1 term. He also served as secretary for the Windber Stadium Authority in the 1970’s and President of the Windber Forward Democrat Club of Windber. Paul was also a member of the Windber Sportsmens and the Johnstown Masonic Temple Lodge #538.  In April of 1988 he served as Orator for the 73rd Class Reunion of the Valley of Altoona where he became a Thirty Second Degree Mason. Paul was honored to be the Democratic Nominee for the State House of Representatives in the 1980”s. Paul’s favorite TV show was Jeopardy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed politics and was a published author of My Favorite PA Trout Streams and My Father’s Path. The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber. Funeral will be held at 11 am Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Windber. Pastor Ruth Jensen, officiating. Entombment Richland Cemetery and Mausoleum. Military Graveside Rites by St. Michael American Legion Post 551.
