BAXENDALE - Mary Emma Edwards – Mowery – Gyukery – Baxendale, 91, passed peacefully into God’s hands on Jan. 12, 2018 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. She, the eldest of twelve, was born in Johnstown on April 3, 1926 to the late John and Edna (Grow) Edwards. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by husbands: John (Jack) Mowery, Joseph Gyukery and William Baxendale and sisters:  Wanda Edwards Motter wife of Ronald, Middletown Pa., Marilyn Edwards Lambing wife of Gerald, New Florence, Pa., Joyce Edwards Puglia former wife of Vincent, Fla., Grace Edwards, Johnstown, Pa., Hulda (Butch) Locher wife of Robert, Md., and Twila Slagle, Washington and brothers:  Earl (Bud) Edwards, N. C. and John Edwards, Fla.  She was also preceded in death by her precious great granddaughter Mackenzie Leigh Bowman Indiana, Pa., dearly beloved daughter in law Martha Weigel Mowery (wife of John Mowery), Temple, Tx. and most loving son Joseph Valentine Gyukery, Vine Grove, Ky. She is survived by her children:  John Mowery, Temple, Tx., Sharon Mowery Cochran wife of Theodore, Fallentimber, Pa., Dwaine Mowery and wife Norma, Windber, Pa., Deborah Gyukery Robertson wife of Jamey Indiana, Pa, Marianne Gyukery Gaydosh wife of Greg, Blairsville, Pa. and daughter in law Donna Gyukery, Vine Grove, Ky. Mary is also survived by over 20 grand children and 35 great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are sisters, Helen wife of Thomas Sides, Lake Placid, Fla., Cynthia wife of Terry Eisenhuth, Elizabethtown, Pa., and brother: James Edwards and his wife Debbie, Lancaster, Pa. Mary worked at so many various jobs in her life time including Troy Laundry, Kreski’s and Coe’s Sub Shop all in Johnstown and Stiles Market, Seward.  She was owner of Mary B’s Yarn and Craft Shop in Seward.  She was most notorious for her delicious subs and her homemade pies.  Mary loved to crochet, can vegetables from her garden and make jelly preserves. She never let life get her down.  When confronted with any hardship she just faced it head on without complaints and moved on. Mary was a strong willed woman with strong beliefs.  She loved being active even as her blindness progressed she continued to attend various functions, stating it was better than sitting alone in her room.  She was involved with the Somerset County Blind Association both by participation in scheduled events and also speaking to groups on behalf of the blind. She was an active member of the Garfield St. EUB church in Johnstown and then at the Seward United Methodist church.  She attended and became a member of the Scalp Level Church of the Brethren upon her retirement to Windber.  She volunteered at the Cambria City Mission and did many missionary work tours in Haiti with her husband William.  Her trust in God was her stronghold throughout her entire life. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm, Sunday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc. 1312 Graham Avenue, Windber. Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday at the Scalp Level Church of the Brethren, 270 Hoffman Avenue, Windber, Pa. , Pastor Ron St.Clair officiating. Interment will be at the Benshoff Hill Cemetery, Johnstown, Pa. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Mary Baxendale Garden Fund c/o Church of the Brethren Home Community, 277 Hoffman Avenue, Windber, Pa  15963.
