Katie E. Newcomer

NEWCOMER –  Katherine E., “Katie,” 89, Windber went to be with her Lord and Saviour Aug. 28, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center.  Born Oct. 26, 1925, in Windber, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Gaio) Tantorno. Also preceded in death by husband, Regis L. Survived by daughters, Sandra, wife of Gary Mihalko, and Regina, wife of Snubby Burket, both of Windber. Grandmother to Gary Mihalko, and wife Gemma, California, and Brian Burket, and wife, Gretchen, Windber.  Great-grandmother to Whitney, Chynne and Mark Mihalko, all of California, and Sarah Burket, Windber. Sister to Rose Miszeruk and William Tantorno, both of Johnstown; Genevieve “Choochie,” wife of John Romanchock; and Frannie, wife of Ron Meyers, all of Windber.  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Katie was a longtime employee of former Eureka Store, and a 25-year plus volunteer at Windber Hospice.  A lifelong and devoted member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Windber, where she served as a Eucharistic minister, member of Third Order Secular and worked in the church hall for many years. She was awarded the Prince Gallitzin Medal, and along with her husband were recognized as the “Family of the Year.” The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, where vigil service will be held.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Church, Windber, Father Rod, TOR, pastor. Committal, church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Windber Hospice in Katie’s memory.
