Irene (Zvolerin) Sesack

January 15, 1923 ~ June 25, 2016 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Mrs. Irene (Zvolerin) Sesack, 93, of Cranberry Township, Pa formerly of Central City and Windber, Pa passed away on June 25, 2016.  Born January 15, 1923 in Windber, daughter of the late John and Katherine (Balko) Zvolerin.  Preceded in death by her parents, husband Michael, brothers Thomas of Windber and Robert of Cleveland, Tennessee and sister Katherine of Windber.  Survived by son Brian J. Sesack, married to Susan (Ruth) Sesack, both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and sisters Martha Haddad of Windber, Lillian Kalmanir of Windber and Elizabeth Heaton of Venetia, Pennsylvania. The eldest child of John and Katherine, Irene graduated from Windber Area High School and subsequently earned her nursing diploma from the Windber Hospital School of Nursing.  After receiving her diploma, and with the encouragement of her mother’s “can’t never could” motto, Irene moved with classmates and friends to Washington, DC to practice nursing at the former Doctor’s Hospital.  Upon receipt of a Western Union telegram indicating that her mother suffered complications from surgery, that ultimately claimed her life, Irene left Washington and a significant romance to assume the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings.  She met her husband, Michael Sesack, while working as a private duty nurse for the late Edward Chupek, a Shade-Central City High School athlete who was paralyzed while playing football.  After marriage and the birth of Brian, she returned to work as a night shift nurse at Windber Hospital until her retirement.  After the death of her husband in 2002, she remained at home in Central City for a few years before relocating to Sherwood Oaks, a retirement community in Cranberry Township just north of Pittsburgh. The family will receive visitors  from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday June 28 at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Wednesday, June 29 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber.
