Henry C., “Hank”, 85, Windber, passed away, February 19, 2017 at Windber Hospital. Born September 13, 1931, in Lilly, PA, son of the late Jacob and Mary (Guzik) Stossel. Preceded in death by siblings, John, Joseph, Frank, Helen Penko, Rudy, Chester, Stanley, and Bill. Survived by his beloved wife, Florence (Tutsock) Stossel, who he celebrated 59 years of marriage; his children are James (Lori), Pittsburgh; Michael, Schertz, Texas; Susan (Robert) Roxby, Portage, and Lisa Davis, Windber. His grandchildren are Rhonda Stossel, Scotty Stossel, Jennifer Montelvo, Christopher Stossel, Gregory Stossel, Robert (Amber) Roxby, Lora (Bryan) Rusnak, Amanda Eppley, and Ashley Eppley. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren (soon to be 9), sisters, Vera Andrews and Barbara Arcurio, and numerous nieces and nephews. A 1949 graduate of Lilly School, he was also a 1951 graduate of St. Francis College in Loretto, Pa where he was a football scholar athlete. He received his master’s degree from West Virginia University. Henry was an Army veteran of the Korean War who proudly served his country while in West Germany. He was also a member and past commander of the Windber American Legion. He was a school teacher and former football and basketball coach who retired from Chestnut Ridge School District in 1993 with over 40 years of service. He also taught in Portage Area School District and the John Carroll Schools. Summers were spent managing the Windber Rec. Park. He was a lifetime sports fan of all of our local and Pittsburgh based sports teams. He enjoyed visiting the occasional casino and loved his friendly poker game with his buddies and supporting the PA lottery. He was an avid golfer and member at Windber Country Club, reader, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy watcher, and loved to do the daily crossword puzzle. He will always be remembered to all as “Coach Stossel”. Henry was also a member of the Teachers Union and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Windber. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc. 1312 Graham Ave. Windber, where vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Windber, Fr. Anthony Petracca, committal with military rites by Windber VFW at St. John Cantius Catholic Cemetery, Windber.
