Ellen L. (Stevens) Gardy

Mrs. Ellen L. (Stevens) Gardy, age 93, of Windber passed away December 14, 2016 at the Windber Hospice.  She was born in Mine 40 on September 22, 1923, the last of four children to Steve M. and Mary (Bartok) Stevens.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years John C. Gardy; infant daughter Marian, sisters Rose Laslo ,Mary Boschko, and brother Steve Stevens.  She is survived by her daughter and caregiver Mary Ellen Voytko married to Timothy Voytko, with whom Ellen resided.  She was the loving grandmother to Lori (Voytko), wife of Glenn Gaye, Jr., of Windber. She was the loving great grandmother to her "precious little girls" Gina and Kaylie Gaye. Her grandchildren were the joy of her heart and she was a great part of their lives. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was a great cook with a bright and optimistic personality even though her vision and hearing disabilities hampered her throughout many years of her life.

She was a member of former St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Windber and current member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic , Windber where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday.  Fr. Rod Soha, TOR, pastor presiding.  Burial will follow at St.. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Windber.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Inc., Windber. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Windber Hospice in Ellen's memory.
