Duane L. Metzger

Metzger, Duane L., 91, formerly of Vinco and later Windber died peacefully surrounded by his family on June 7, 2017 at CSS Medical Center @ Windber. Born May 24, 1926 in Johnstown son of the late Elton and Ethel (Rowland) Metzger.  Also preceded in death by first wife former Barbara Miller, second wife former Doris (Shaffer) Berkey, step son-in-law Ronald Callahan, an infant sister Dorothy Carol Metzger, infant grandson Jonathan Brett, and niece Lisa Metzger. Survived by these daughters: Sharon, wife of Harvey McClinsey, Johnstown, Judy, wife of William Brett, and Linda, wife of Mike Smeed, both of Vinco, step-son Larry Berkey, married to the former Veronica Bulvin, and step-daughter Nancy Callahan, widow of Ronald, both of Johnstown. Also survived by eight grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren. Brother of Rayford, & wife Shelyma, New Market, TN. Uncle to Steve Metzger,NC, and Denise Smith, TN. Retired from IU 8, worked as a barber in Vinco for many years, drove school bus for Central Cambria SD for 25 years. He was very active in both Vinco Brethren Church & Windber Church of the Brethren. Lifetime member of Jackson Twp. Vol. Fire Co., where he also held several positions. Avid hunter who harvested over 50 deer. At the age of 85 he rode a hot air balloon, and sky dove at age 85 and then again at age 90. His interests also include square dancing and golfing. Navy veteran of WW II. The family will receive friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Inc. where service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Pastor Joe Brown, officiating. Interment at Benshoff Hill Cemetery with military honor from Windber VFW Ritual Team, and Jackson Twp. Vol. Fire Co. Memorial offerings may be made to Jackson Twp. Vol. Fire Co., Adams Ave., Mineral Point, PA 15942 or Windber Church of the Brethren in Duane’s memory. Jackson Twp.
