Donald L. Weaver

Donald L. Weaver, 85, resident of Laurel View Village in Davidsville, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.   Born May 15, 1930, in Scalp Level, son of the late Lewis H. and Nellie (Jones) Weaver. Preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Gary, and sisters, Dorothy Edwards and Gladys McGregor.  Survived by sister, Betty (Weaver) Hoffman, Richland, numerous nieces and nephews, and many life-long friends, especially Joseph & Jayne (Wallwork) Holuta and family of Indiana, PA.  Don was a driver for various national, as well as local, trucking companies throughout his career interspersed with his years as a farmer and service station owner.  But Don’s true passion was downhill skiing and his proudest accomplishment was the many young people that he introduced to the sport.  In the words of Don’s youngest niece, Joan (Weaver) Cromer,  Don “put an icy, diamond-like sparkle in many kids’ lives for learning skills on the snow covered mountainside.”   Don skied at some world-famous slopes during his lifetime, but maintained that none surpassed his local favorite, Blue Knob.  For 25 consecutive years, he proudly wore Blue Knob’s  #001 Season Pass.  Don’s family would like to thank Windber Hospice for the services provided during his final days and the loving ‘angels’ from Laurel View Village’s Health Care Section for their many years of dedicated, patient, and loving care attending to Don’s every need. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Sunday at the Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home, Windber, where deacon's service will be held Sunday evening and where funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM,  Rev. Ron St.Clair officiating. Interment, Richland Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a memorial donation to Scalp Level Church of the Brethren or Laurel View Village Caring Fund.
