Charles I. Smethurst

Charles I. Smethurst, age 62, Raiford, Florida, formerly of Windber died March 21, 2018 in Florida. He was born October 8, 1955 in Johnstown son of the now late Charles and Kathryn (Bracken) Smethurst.  Also preceded in death by a sister Kathryn Wentz. Survived by sister Mary Lou, wife of Eugene Sam, Ebensburg and these nieces: Stacy Diehl, Buffalo Mills, Jeanne Lombard, Pittsburgh and Gail Hill, of Bedford. Also survived by a number of close and loving friends. Chuck was a 1973 graduate of WAHS, a 1977 graduate Cum Laude, of UPJ.  A 1988 gradute of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. Former employee of  Cambria Residential Services, Johnstown; Twin Lakes Center, Somerset, and Laurel Springs, Bedford. Former member of former First Lutheran Church, Windber. Friends received from 11 until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Ruth Jensen, Pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Windber will officiate. Private interment Richland Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Smethurst.
