Alice (Homway) Laney

LANEY – Mrs. Alice E., 86, San Diego, Calif., formerly of Windber, passed away peacefully on the early morning of Aug. 23, 2015. Born Oct. 28, 1928, in Windber, daughter of late Joseph and Johanna Homway. Also preceded in death by husband, Ersell “Bob” Laney; and her eldest son, David E. Laney; as well as several brothers and sisters. Survived by son, Brian, San Diego; and grandchildren, Andrew Laney, San Diego, Calif.; Daniel Laney, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Sarah Laney, Oxford, Miss. Sister of Edward Homway, Windber. Alice was a caring mother, grandmother and homemaker for most of her life. She and her husband settled in Richland Township to build their life together and raise a family. After the children grew up and moved away, Alice and Bob relocated to Mississippi where they owned and operated a small motel and restaurant just south of Jackson. They sold their business in the late 1980s and retired to Florida. In 1999, they moved to San Diego, Calif., to be closer to their son and grandchildren. Alice thrived during that final chapter of her life, having had the blessing of building a close relationship with her grandchildren and becoming a beloved figure in their lives. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, Father Rod Soha, TOR, presiding.
